I Know That Microsoft Isn’t Exactly Known For Flashy, In-Your-Face Copy In Their Mailings

But witness the opening paragraph of their TechNet Flash newsletter:

It’s a new year and that can only mean one thing here in Redmond: We’re getting ready to launch some core products with “2008” in their names.

I know TechNet are targeted towards developers rather than consumers, but must they resort to saying “Hey, it’s 2008, so it’s time for software titled with the said year’s suffix!” to open the newsletter? Are IT people really as banal as their software documentations, and their sense of humor as dry as their use of gradients and choice of typeface?

THE QUESTION REMAINS.

But, obviously, I’m greatly pigeonholing the demographic here—because programmers aren’t technical writers, comic artists nor graphic designers—but you know what I mean.
